After I finish this article, the world will be saved! In the first book, Jim is introduced as a thirteen-year-old boy who, despite being raised in a Mormon family, is part of a gang of teenagers who call themselves the Vikings.

While performing church services with his father, Jim gets to know a geeky kid named Garth Plimpton who attends the same church as him. Although they are unsuccessful on their first search, on their second search, Jim's younger sister Jennifer joins them and helps them find the Rainbow Room. Jim, Garth, and Jennifer are found by Lamanite scouts and taken to the camp where Amalickiah and his brother Ammoron reign supreme. At a royal feast, Amalickiah grills Jim and Garth about their origin.

Jim and Garth tell him that they are from Cody, Wyoming, which Amalickiah does not believe. He deduces that they are Nephite spies and sentences them to the Lamanite priests' next ritual. Not long after, Jim and Garth are set free by a Lamanite traitor and escape into the surrounding forest. They run into a band of soldiers led by Teancum, who bring them back to the city of Zarahemla. There, Jim hears more about the Nephite-Lamanite war going on, and develops a crush on a young Nephite girl named Menochin.

While exploring the marketplace one day, Jim and Garth follow a suspicious-looking man and eavesdrop on a secret Kingmen meeting. To the boys' horror, the Kingmen are an organization of assassins that are planning to murder various Nephite leaders, including Teancum and Captain Moroni.

Jim and Garth rush to warn Teancum of the plot to murder him, unintentionally starting rumors of assassins among the Nephites. In retaliation, Sellum approaches Jim and holds him at knifepoint. After Teancum shows up and breaks them up, Sellum is sent to prison.

Not long after, Teancum prepares a war party to march on the Lamanite camp where Amalickiah resides. Since Jim, as a time traveller, has the gift of tongues that allows him to speak and understand any language as if it's his own, Teancum asks him to accompany him to serve as his translater.

Jim agrees on the condition that Teancum rescues Jim's sister Jennifer, who is being held captive by the Lamanites. Teancum agrees to his terms. After winning a battle with the Lamanite army, Jim and Teancum enter Amalickiah's camp to kill Amalickiah and rescue Jenny. They find Amalickiah and kill him in his sleep before rescuing Jenny. After Jim and Jenny reunite with Garth, the three of them are told by the prophet Helaman that, if they disclose the memories of their experiences in Nephite times to anyone else in the modern world, they will lose their memories of those experiences.

Jim, Garth, and Jenny then find the cave that contains the time loop that brought them to Nephite times and use it to go back to modern times. At first, Jim makes good on his promise to keep his adventures a secret. However, when he witnesses Jenny tell a friend from church about it and subsequently lose her memory of it, he feels the need to share it in some form. He resorts to recount his experiences via a written manuscript, as he feels that keeping his adventures a secret is selfish.

However, when he finishes writing the manuscript, he loses his memory of his adventure. Years later, as recounted in the novel's prologue and epilogue, Jim finds his manuscript in his old files. He reads it over and finds it intriguing. He notices that Garth Plimpton is a major character in the story and decides to share it with him. Garth reads over the manuscript and shares Jim's intrigue; however, unbeknownst to Jim, Garth kept his committment to keep their adventures a secret and in turn retained his memory.

It all began when Garth told Jim a simple truth:. That statement, taken for granted before, would soon echo deeply in the two boys' minds — because they were on the trail of a chilling secret. At the root of this secret was a faded Indian legend that old men told children to make their eyes grow big. As Garth and Jim put the pieces of the puzzle together, they accidentally stumble upon a mysterious passageway hurling them into another world — an ancient American world.

Join Jim, Garth, and Jim's pesky little sister, Jennifer, as they journey in a land where the names Helaman, Teancum, and Captain Moroni are more than just words on a page. The Sacred Quest by Chris Heimerdinger. There are thirteen books in the series so far, with the fourteenth anticipated to be released in the near future:. The main characters of the series are Jim Hawkins, his sister Jenny Hawkins and Garth Plimpton, and later, their family members and friends.

The novels involve people from modern times being transported to the past at various times and locations described in the Standard Works by means of a cave in Wyoming called "Frost Cave" a real cave on the Spirit Mountain in Cody, Wyoming in the United States. They feature both Book of Mormon and Bible themes. The first four books feature Jim Hawkins as the main character: first as a teenager, then as a young man in college, and in the third and fourth as a father of three children.

In an announcement published on his official blog on November 22,however, Heimerdinger said that because of the complexities involved with the book he is currently writing, there will likely be two more volumes in the current adventure. Heimerdinger said that tentative plans are for book 11 Sorcerers and Seers to be published in early fall inwith volume 12 more appropriately named Thorns of Glory to be published 6—12 months after book Later in his official blog, Heimerdinger said that he had submitted the draft to his publisher, and he didn't know how far into the editing process they are.

He did say, however, that "as of now the publisher's plan is to release the book this fall — September, if I understood them correctly. Things can change, but as of now, that's the intent. In even later blog posts, Heimerdinger stated that the story had gotten even more complex and would culminate in combining the Tennis Shoes Adventure Series with his Passage to Zarahemla series.

The volume uniting the two series was Passage's sequel, Escape From Zarahemla. Future Heimernovels will serve as sequels to both series. Most know that this book is long enough that my publisher will likely divide it into two books. Let me know what you think. Just know that Book 13 is likely still called Thorns of Glory. Subsequent posts confirmed that Drums of Desolation would indeed be the title of the next book.

It was released on October 1,though an option to pre-order from Heimerdinger himself was immediately available.

Hard to find anything that isn't a "spoiler" these days. This from the POV of Apollus.

The cords binding my wrists were severed. The Lamayan soldiers, as well as the Nephite prisoners, were backing away from me as if I had the plague. There was just Moroni standing to my left, and the former Hummingbird Captain about six paces in front of me, poised to rush at me with his obsidian sword.

Who has it? Where is it? Just gaped defiantly. No one was offering me anything with which to defend myself. Out of the corner of my eye I saw First Deer flick his wrist. Something landed in the grass at my feet. I studied it. The man with the black-spotted nose had tossed me a knife off his belt.

Not obsidian. Not sure it was even flint. It had a reasonably sharp point, but did it have a blade? The thing looked more like an eating utensil. Foolish, I conceded, to believe they had any intention of making this a fair fight. As I scooped up the knife, First Deer was already shrieking and lunging forward Thanks for publishing this teaser. I am still biting my nails about the destiny of a few of them. I adore these books! They have been my favorite since I was little and we listened on to them on our first family road trip!
